Running out of money before the next paycheck comes in is a common problem faced in many households. You might think that the only way not to run out of money is to earn more so you simply wait for the next pay raise or search for another job that pays better. Unfortunately, this tactic does not usually solve the problem of living paycheck to paycheck. Instead of just waiting for the time when you earn more money you should focus on living better with the money that your currently earn.

Post image for How To Set Up A Family Budget And Stick To It

The family budget is not a myth. If you are like many families you have probably spent years sustaining yourself by spending whatever is in the check account and crossing your fingers until the next paycheck arrives. This is obviously not the best way to live your life. If you are want to find a better way to manage your finances or are just starting out then you need to come up with a real budget that can help you save money and still enjoy life.

The problem many of us face when it comes to family finances is that we have no idea where our money goes each month. That is why, before you can figure out how you should spend your money you have to figure out how it is being spent right now. To do this you will need to track every penny that you spend for a month. This includes every coffee, every meal out, every pack of gum. In addition, you have to make a list of all of your monthly expenses like the rent or mortgage, car loan payments, utility bills, and anything else that is fixed.

Post image for Make £200 Extra Money Challenge: June 2010

June has been a good month as I smashed my target of £200.

Extra money made so far this month,

  • £142.39 eBay
  • £47.69 Amazon
  • £29.45 Surveys, Misc and Interest

Total = £219.53

I am really pleased with this as I didn’t think I had much that was worth selling, but I’m doing a massive purging of our stuff.

How do you make extra money? Share your ideas in the comments.

Post image for What Does ‘Frugal’ mean to you!

Today I wanted to talk about the meaning of the word ‘Frugal’.

We frugal people get a very bad reputation. We get accused of being neglectful, controlling, and disgusting, to name but a few. Nothing is further from the truth than the accusation that frugal people are stingy.

Frugal does not mean stingy. At all.

According to dictionary.com, frugal means “economical in use or expenditure; prudent saving or sparing; not wasteful”. Stingy, on the other hand, is defined as “reluctant to give or spend; not generous; penurious”. In other words, frugal means using your knowledge to allocate the money you have, whereas stingy means being so tight with your money that you’re not willing to help others out.

What Frugality means to me!
